Using multiple WAN connections is one way of ensuring your internet connection is reliable, but multi-WAN routers can be pricey. Enter the £30 (ex.VAT) TP-Link TL-R470T+, which is a five-port router with four of its five 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports freely configurable as either LAN or WAN ports. I've written a short product news piece about it for
ZDNet UK's First Take blog.

You get an awful lot for your money in this small box |

The user interface has plenty of useful help, but it's a bit crowded in there |

Thanks for reviewing this product Kelvyn.Given the price this sure looks promising. Can you share further feedback as to how stable this unit has been, any thermal Issues/lockups so far. Does it need regular reboots to function properly ?
ReplyDeleteHi Mohit - afraid I was only able to use the product for a few days, so I can't really comment on reliability. It didn't give me any problems during that time, however. It did run quite cool.
ReplyDeleteJust received the unit. TL-R470T+ is pretty well built, has a metal body which is powder coated, running cool so far. PPPoE and DHCP both are working as expected.
ReplyDeleteShall post further update once i get the second connection installed tomorrow and set up Load Balancing
TL-R470T+ has been configured with 2 PPPoE connections for now and has been running solid so far. I have it uplinked to a TP-Link TL-MR3420 access point for wireless clients. Switch over time in case of a failure is less than a second and I'm pretty impressed with price/performance it offers.
ReplyDeletehello Mohit , Today i also purchased the TL-R470+, its working ok, without any settings change, so settings are untouched, i am surprised how quickly i'm able to setup this router with my Binatone wifi router provided by my ISP (Airtel).I want to know if you have made any changes in the settins when you got your second ISP connection. I'm also waiting for my second ISP connection. PLz reply in detail.
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance
Hi, really interested in this product. In terms of setup, do i have to have modems connected into the WAN ports, or the adsl lines directly connected to the WAN ports?
ReplyDeleteThanks
@ rickcolton - thanks for stopping by! The device does not have any built-in DSL or cable modems, so you will need to connect your modem(s) directly into the WAN ports using a standard Ethernet cable.
ReplyDeleteAssalamualakum!
DeleteCan u help me to configure TP-LINK TL-R470T+ step by step or by snap shots?
I have One PTCL DSL Modem AN1020-25 & One Wi-tribe Device.
Dear I'm running Server/Client network by using Manual IPs over the Internet.
on Server side:
PTCL Modem: AN1020-25 (on DHCP)
PDC (Primary Domain Controller): 192.168.1.5 (Manual)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS: 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS: Blank
on Clients side:
PC-1 to PC-40: 192.168.1.20 to 60 respectively (free from 60 to 254) (Manual)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS: 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS: Blank
When PTCL DSL goes down & I connect Wi-tribe, I will have to change the all client IPs including Server i.e.:
IP: 192.168.15.21
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.15.1
Preferred DNS: 192.168.15.1
Alternate DNS Blank
I want these automatic by using TP-LINK TL-R470T+ device.
