Review: AOL Computer Checkup

AOL has launched a Computer Checkup tool intended to help less-confident users keep on top of Windows maintenance. It does a decent job, although practically all its features can be replicated for free if you look around. But that's missing the point - this is aimed at those who can't (or don't want to) build up their own toolkit.  Read my review on Computeractive.

  1. AOl Computer checkup is software installed by customers giving them a false sense of hope that it will fix all their computer problems, when actually it causes more problems to the computer before it was installed. It is a tool like all computer checkup tools to upsell to a higher priced service. Registry tools should never be ran on a computer to "clean out the registry" even Microsoft says to stay out of the registry because it can cause damage to your system.

    1. Have you actually read my review? Although I had a few reservations, such as the price and the registry cleaner, it's actually not that bad a product for those who don't want the hassle of building their own collection of utilities. (I've actually tried many registry cleaners during my career, none have caused real damage, but none have made much difference, either).

  2. i did the registry cleaner part and it took many hrs and i knew something was wrong- shouldve gone with my instincts- although my computer was old- it was like a couple days later my computer crashed- could be a coincidence? not sure- but now i need a new one..

  4. My computer began to have problems when I ran the AOL checkup. I don't think it is an accident that the problems began after opting for the AOL service...

  5. My computer problems began with the trial of the AOL computer checkup. I don't think it was an accident, as after I canceled the free trial, I got repeated reminders that I should renew the service...

  6. You people are nuts. Got everything right, but you will not let me publish. AOL computer checkup is a joke. Problems began with it, it did not do anything other than cause problems
